A few years ago Georg Riedel, world-famous designer
of wine and spirit glasses, was commissioned to create a glass
that would bring out all the complex flavours of Aberlour Single
Malt.
Riedel's design philosophy is that form follows
function; in other words, it is aroma and taste that should determine
the size and shape of a glass not just aesthetic appearance. The
elegant but efficiently-shaped crystal glass he produced, 4½in
high with a capacity of 7fl oz, was tested by a panel of malt
whisky experts in London and overwhelmingly voted a success.
