Speyside Cooperage
Two miles from Aberlour is the Speyside Cooperage, one of the very
few such working establishments left in Scotland. At the award-winning
visitors' centre you can see skilled craftsmen making and repairing
oak whisky casks in the traditional way - shaping the wooden staves
and binding them with iron hoops without the use of nails, screws
or any adhesive. Around 100,000 new or restored casks are worked
on at the cooperage each year.
