Boisdale of Belgravia - London
An extremely stylish restaurant and
two bars with a deliberately well-worn, clubable atmosphere. The
Macdonald Bar has close to 200 malts and probably the largest
stock of Cuban cigars in the UK. There is live classic jazz most
nights. An eclectic range of paintings hangs on the walls, from
Scotland's own Henry Raeburn to Picasso and other moderns. The
restaurant has a menu at £17.45 quaintly commemorating Bonnie
Prince Charlie's 1745 rebellion, and as the elder son of the 24th
Chief of Clanranald the patron has an immaculate Scottish pedigree.
Boisdale, by the way, is the name of a small Hebridean port.

Heworth Court Hotel - York
The hotel's Whisky Bar has a small
but distinguished selection of malts - around 35 at the moment,
and growing. Both Aberlour 10 Year Old and a'bunadh are stocked.
The ceiling of the bar is covered with a montage of posters from
Scottish distilleries, so you just look up for inspiration.

The Grey Horse - Consett
A very characterful pub with over 100
malts in stock, Aberlour well represented amongst them. Landlord
Paul Conroy decided that the best way to fill the empty shelves
behind the bar was with malt whisky, and that's how his impressive
collection began. He also brews a number of real ales on site.
The pub is close to the eastern end of the famous Coast to Coast
(C2C) cycle route - that's if you want to take your bike.

Athenaeum Hotel - London
The Malt Whisky Bar at the hotel, open
to non-residents, stocks over 70 malts which are displayed in
cabinets around the bar. The original selection was put together
with the help of whisky guru Wallace Milroy, so prepare to be
impressed. Favourite haunt of many overseas celebrities, though
it's the whisky that really stars.

Quy Mill Hotel - Cambridge
I went here for a Xmas meal and found
they had a whisky room [Celtic Bar], many great malts (although
a bit pricey) but great after-dinner drinking content!

Certainly not a replica of the Edinburgh rooms
but the same good bottlings. A very modern bolt-hole in the City.
